Northern Dog Transfer Network

Every year we save an average of 700 dogs by transporting them out of the communities of the NWT. Some stay here in the Territory but many are flown out to the southern rescue organizations that can foster and adopt them into great homes. This Network of organizations is an incredible chain of caring organizations and individuals with a passion for saving as many dogs as possible. Without these wonderful people many dogs would not be alive today or would be suffering greatly.

ESCORTING DOGS SOUTH

We really depend on people like you to help relocate our wonderful northern specials either to an adopter down South or a trusted Animal Rescue organization.

If you are traveling to a major city in Alberta or B.C. such as Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Nanimo, Comox, or Abbotsford, you can help by adding a dog to your ticket!

For information please contact us at hello@nwtspca.com.

NOTE: Sometimes the dog isn't ready and sometimes there just isn't room on the plane so we may not be able to use your flight.  Please reach out to us anytime you fly with West Jet, Air Canada or Air North.

Northern Community Programs

Community Spay and Neuter

The NWT SPCA has a program for community dogs to get fixed.  For $250 a family can send in their dog to us and we will get the dog spayed or neutered, and vaccinated if needed.  The dog is then sent back to the community.  The benefits of this program are tremendous as it helps control the overpopulation of dogs in isolated communities.  This program possible because of our partnership with Air Tindi/ First Air and Great Slave Animal Hospital. Please email us at medical@nwtspca.com if you would like to know more about this program.  Click for a Brochure on the benefits of Spay and Neutering! If the animal has to travel on Air Tindi there is an additional $50 charge, Canadian North Cargo an additional $100. Buffalo Airlines flies at no charge.

Northern Pet Food Pantry

We ask for donations of Pet food and supplies such as collars, leashes, tie-outs toys etc so we can send them to the Communities in the NWT that need them. These items are difficult to get and also expensive to purchase in many small communities and sometimes families need a little help.  We try our best to help when asked. Our program donates thousands of dollars in supplies each year to many communities in the North. Thank you to Air Tindi and Buffalo, First Air Cargo which transports these supplies for us. For more information please contact us.

Hero Campaign

The HERO Campaign is a way for people to save a dog without the responsibilities that come along with ownership. For $75 (the average cost of a one-way ticket) you can sponsor a dog to fly south to a partner facility, or for $100 you can sponsor a dog to fly to Yellowknife from Inuvik, Cambridge Bay, Rankin Inlet, or any number of the smaller communities in the NWT or Nunavut. This is for dogs who have been impounded for an extended period of time, older dogs, and dogs with behavioral issues that temporarily prevent them from being adopted. It also includes many puppies for whom the winter and harsh climate of the North would be a death sentence.

If you are interested in saving a dog and becoming a HERO, please email us! Click here to see some of the dogs that have been sent down south from NWT and Nunavut since 2010.
